Band 3 Skilled Gardening Operative.

Salary range £ , 335 per annum inclusive of all allowances.


This is an amazing job for someone who is passionate about parks and gardens and is driven to improve standards and the patient experience.

The Skilled Operative is responsible for a team focused approach on delivering day to day gardening operations within the Broadmoor Hospital Estate, that includes intensive planting, open grassland, woodland & ecologically sensitive areas.

The successful skilled operative will assist and support the existing team in working productively and safely to ensure that the green spaces are managed to the best possible standards with the resources available.

To adhere to Health and Safety, hygiene and COSHH legislation ensuring that standards set out in Trust Procedures, Policies and expectations in respect of (but not limited to) oils/lubricants, fumes, hazardous waste (including asbestos), chemicals, faces, deceased animals.

To undertake maintenance, repair and complete relevant record keeping in respect of trust vehicles and plant equipment.


To support the Grounds and Gardens Team Leader with chainsaw/tree works in accordance with the Trust's Woodland Management Plan and National Proficiency Test Council training.

To support the Grounds and Gardens Team Leader with hard and soft landscaping projects (e.g. Road repairs, fencing, external furniture and structures installation)

To operate and maintain the road sweeper in accordance with operator/maintenance manuals and training guidelines.


To, as directed by the Team Leader undertake works relating to the Trust's adverse weather protocol including gritting of roads, paths, car parks and entrances either by hand or mechanical equipment/tractors with attachments.

To undertake gardens and grounds maintenance tasks in accordance with Preventative Planned Maintenance (PPM) system (e.g. pruning, dead heading, digging, hoeing, cultivating, fertilising, watering, staking and tying, hedge cutting, litter picking).

To undertake security checks/cleaning/ organisation of the gardening team's maintenance, storage and accommodation areas.
