As a care assistant, your main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Helping with personal care activities such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Providing daily living support by assisting with tasks like eating, drinking, and mobility.
  • Observing and reporting any changes in the individual's health or wellbeing.
  • Offering emotional support, companionship, empathy, and reassurance.
  • Assisting with light housekeeping duties to maintain a safe and comfortable environment.
  • Identifying and minimizing potential risks to ensure the safety of the individual.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, their families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Upholding the individual's dignity and privacy at all times.
  • Being prepared to handle emergencies calmly and efficiently.
  • Engaging in continuous learning and development to enhance caregiving skills and knowledge.

Requirements Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience is not necessary but healthcare or social care experience will have an added advantage.
  • People from nursing home, hospital, community support or care home backgrounds are a good fit for these roles.
  • Having a NVQ 2 in Health and Social Care, level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or training to Care Certificate standards can be beneficial.
