About the role

We have an amazing opportunity to join our Water Networks team as Crew Lead/Ganger - Water Mains Operative within our Teesside, Teesdale and North Yorkshire operating region in the Northeast of England.

You may know these roles as Lead Ganger, Lead Utilities Operative, or Lead Civils Worker.

As the Crew Lead, you'll be responsible for your work site, and accountable for your achievements as a crew.

You'll be directly contributing to our vision of supplying a clean, clear, and reliable supply of drinking water to customers in our local communities by carrying out repair and maintenance tasks on our underground network of water mains, services and assets.

We're looking for you to demonstrate flexibility, including active participation in a standby rota and additional initiatives to achieve better performance.

This role has been defined as a safety or security critical role and as a condition of a formal offer of employment you'll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test.

Prospective employees and agency workers in defined safety and security critical roles will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made.

This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date. Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a

pre-employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked.

A full valid UK class B driving licence is essential for this role.

About you

You'll have proven experience in working safely in an operational environment in the Water or Utilities industry, including carrying out excavations, repairs and installations to a high standard.

You'll be experienced in operating and directing the operation of a range of plant and equipment associated with this type of work, whilst working to remain compliant with Permit conditions.

You'll have hands on knowledge of mains isolations, environmental mitigation procedures, and the requirements of the Disinfection Code of Practice.

You'll be an excellent role model, able to demonstrate clear problem-solving abilities, and you'll be keen to take the initiative to organise your time, materials and resources in order to work effectively.

We are looking for you to bring your passion and enthusiasm to make a difference to our customers and the ability to engage and connect with people, along with being inquisitive, with potential to learn and develop.

You'll also be resilient and results driven, with positivity and a caring attitude in equal measure.

We're looking for you to be inclusive, respectful and considerate, along with being able to coach and challenge in a confident and constructive way and be able to share and receive feedback positively.

You'll enjoy working outdoors in the fresh air on practical tasks, along with being able to interpret and follow instructions, both written and verbal, and record accurate information using mobile technology (smart phone).

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality.
