Immediate Start**My Client are an NHS Trust based in Shrewsbury and are seeking a Head of Patient Flow on a 3 month contract (37.5 hours per week) onsite at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.


Job Summary

The Head of Patient Flow is the Lead for Capacity Centre which includes clinical site management, patient flow and bed capacity management.

As a key member of the operational management senior team, you will be expected to provide senior leadership and managementsupport to all teams managing patient flow within the Trust.

You will provide a site based focal point for the day-to-day management of patient flow and site based flow and escalation issues, including bed management, supporting groups to reduce waiting lists, and support site development activities.

You will providesenior level operational leadership, and will be accountable for the delivery of Clinical Site Management services ensuring efficient and effective management of all resources in order to deliver safe, high quality and effective patient care in an environmentof continuous improvement.

You will ensure that all digital systems are used efficiently and real time to ensure patient flow systems are efficient, responsive, safe and are provided to the highest possible standards, in line with Trust values.

You will use data effectively to ensureactivity is forecast forward and empower a culture of doing tomorrow's work today to improve hospital flow.

You will provide senior leadership to the Command Centre working in collaboration with the flow matrons and clinical site manager to ensure seamless service provision in support of Trust clinical teams.

You will be responsible for the command centre, clinicalsite team and discharge lounge team.
You will have a high degree of autonomy at an operational level and significant front line presence.

You will lead on transformation work required to effectively manage and optimise patient flow within the Trust ensuring digital systems are used to the bestaffect to enable live accurate data to support decision making.

You will support the patient flow matrons in the development, implementation, management and review of the Trusts operational plans, policies and escalation protocols which support the management of patient flow and discharge.

You will work alongside the clinical triumvirate teams within Clinical Divisions to ensure that clinical safety and quality is maintained alongside the business integrity of the Trust and provide operational resilience support affecting patient flow.

You will deputise for the Chief Operating Officer and/or represent the Trust in matters relating to the operational management of patient flow as required on ICS; regional; surge calls as appropriate.

You will commission action from a variety of sources including Divisional Directors of Operations, Clinical Directors, Consultants, Heads of Nursing, Matrons and the support services and facilities to ensure effective and efficient patient flow is planned anddelivered.

You will ensure that ECIP best practice for running site safety meetings is undertaken.

You will ensure patient activity is balanced to meet key access targets, including 18 week waiting list targets, RTT, cancelled operations, and 4 hour patient safety target within the Accident and Emergency Departments.


Knowledge and Experience

  • Significant operational management and/or clinical leadership experience
  • Proven experience of successful financial management
  • Proven experience of managing a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication skills, including written verbal presentation skills
  • Demonstrable experience of improving quality for service users and carers
  • Experience of strategic planning resulting in change management programmes
  • Experience of identifying and delivering quality improvement and service improvement initiatives
  • Experience of successful interagency working
  • Experience of managing successful change
  • Knowledge of the national policy agenda in relation to discharge
  • Experience of managing grievance and disciplinary hearings
  • Experience of logistics or similar

Qualifications

  • Graduate level education in healthcare or relevant management qualification
  • Achieved, Working towards, or prepared to work toward Masters level qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development
  • A recognised management qualification or equivalent
