OCU Integrum (Part of the wider OCU Group) currently have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Electrical Designer to join our team in Stockport.


As an Apprentice Electrical Designer, you will embark on a structured training program to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for a career in electrical design engineering.

Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will learn to create electrical designs, drawings, and specifications for various projects, including buildings, infrastructure, and electrical systems.

This role offers hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities for growth in the field of electrical engineering and design. Academically you will be supported to achieve the Level 4 Electrical Power Networks Apprenticeship standard.


Duties and Responsibilities:


Electrical Design:
Participate in the design and development of electrical systems and components for various projects. This may include creating schematics, layouts, specifications, and reports.


Project Support:

Collaborate with Design Engineers to support ongoing projects, providing assistance in areas such as surveying, primary and secondary design, system integration, testing, and commissioning.

Identify and support opportunities for cost savings, efficiency and business improvement.


Documentation:
Prepare and maintain project documentation, including drawings, technical specifications, and reports. Ensure that documentation meets the organisational and clients' procedures, standards, and requirements.


Collaboration:

Work closely with all teams, Project Managers, and key stakeholders, to ensure effective communication and coordination throughout the project lifecycle.


Continuous Learning:
Understand industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical and civil engineering. Actively seek opportunities for professional development.


Compliance:
Provide support to assure all electrical designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations.


Programme:
Support the Design Engineers to update the project programmes and budgets on a regular basis.


Technology:
Use Computer-Aided Design ("CAD") software to deliver Electrical and Civils designs.


Safety:
Ensure all work is delivered safety and follows safety by design principles.


Engagement:

Support the full lifecycle from engagement with new and existing clients and the supply chain to winning of new works, to design delivery and handover at practical completion.


Skills and Experience required:


  • Educated to Level 3 in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Have the soft skills and experience to integrate with existing team members.
  • Have an understanding of renewable energy and/or wider transmission & distribution sectors.
  • Have an understanding of railway electrification systems.
  • Good IT skills
  • Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills and detail orientated.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and challenges.
  • Outstanding selfreliance, resourcefulness, initiative and enthusiasm, flexible approach, and excellent time management.
