R&D Assistant 2

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Intumescent R&D team as an R&D Assistant 2.

The Intumescent R&D Departmentin Jotun has come a long way in 20 years.

From technology followers, with little or no presence in the industry, to one of market leaders with acknowledged 'best in class' products and unique solutions.

Jotun is now a leading presence in various intumescent R&D industry associations and is directing initiatives with a global reach.


Responsibilities, as a general overview;

  • Commit to becoming a fully trained R&D technician learning, for example;
    Steel identification and thermocoupling
  • Be able to correctly measure and identify Steel specimens in accordance with industry standards
  • Safe use of Spray pumps and equipment. Understanding the different product ranges
    Run fire testing furnace
  • Understand and carry out different test standards to assess performance of prototype products
  • Work together with chemist, in developing, testing and evaluating paint/binder/raw materials. This includes giving constructive feedback on both ongoing and finished work.
  • Report results continuously, in writing and orally, also simple standard reports.
  • Always work safely, without exception and understand content and the meaning of safety data sheets and the importance of wearing the correct PPE

Applicants should have;

  • Experience of working within the coatings industry is preferred and experience of intumescent products is particularly preferred
  • Basic use and understanding of hand tools, such as hand drills, abrasive grinder, vernier callipers, trowel and float is preferable
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Can learn new skills through a handson, physical approach
  • Act on own initiative and take responsibility for own duties, adhering to the daily plan
  • Be flexible in their approach to work
  • Be structured in their daily tasks with a 'can do' attitude
  • Be people and task orientated
  • Work well as a member of a team
  • Excellent communication skills
