Our Broomfield Hospital Pharmacy is looking for an enthusiastic, caring, pro-active and motivated pharmacy assistant to join their busy Distribution team.


Duties will include processing wards stock orders, uploading on the system, picking and packing the orders in a timely manner and ensure stock control is maintained at all times.

Pharmacy experience is not essential as full training and support will be provided.

You will be assisting Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacists and ward staff providing a customer focussed service.


You will assist in the provision of Pharmacy Services to all wards and departments within the Trust and external clinics where appropriate.


You will be working as part of the Distribution team to provide an effective pharmacy service covering Stores, Goods receiving and our Outpatient pharmacy counter.

For full details about this varied and rewarding role, please see attached job description, but some of the responsibilities includen

  • Take part in the Pharmacy ward topup service: print ward stock lists to a schedule, check ward and department stock of Pharmaceuticals against an agreed list and order required items.
  • Liaise with ward staff, ward pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to ensure ward stock lists are kept up to date
  • Process ward stock orders including topup orders and telephone requests, using the Wellsky computer system.
  • Process, pick and package requisitions from other areas within Pharmacy.
  • Monitor and maintain stock in the Emergency drug cupboard.
  • Perform the daily top up of the main Pharmacy department.
  • Assist with the recording and storage of archive material.
  • Perform departmental stock checks, counting and reconciliation.
  • Supply orders of Pharmaceuticals to community clinics and GP surgeries according to departmental procedure.
  • Answer and deal with telephone enquiries from customers relating to orders.
  • Monitor the expiry date, recall and assemble emergency drug packs.
  • Assess suitability of Pharmaceuticals for return to stock. Return items to stock using the Wellsky computer system, or dispose of according to departmental procedure.
  • Assist with the management and disposal of Special (Pharmaceutical) waste.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy workplace
  • Receive deliveries and book in orders of pharmaceuticals and other stocks.
  • Assist in the resolution of order discrepancies, identification of late and outstanding orders and return of stock to suppliers.
  • Process computer receipts of orders (ODELIV).
  • Put goods away maintaining an efficient stock rotation system.
  • Unload and put away bulk deliveries of large volume fluids and containers.
  • Investigate and resolve queries on orders, goods receipts and invoices, referring to the Stores Supervisor when necessary.
  • Liaise with other pharmacy staff to ensure that correct ordering procedures are adhered to; support other staff in maintaining correct stock control procedures.
  • File hard copy orders and other related documents.
  • Maintain archive records.
  • Follow departmental Standard Operational Procedures at all times.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties
  • Maintain a clean and tidy workplace
