Description

The advertised post of Consultant in Critical Care and Anaesthesia is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead.

The Critical Care Department ia a 12-bedded, purpose-built, mixed medical and surgical adult critical care unit, accepting approximately 1000 admissions per year.

There are 6 level 3 and 6 level 2 commissioned beds, which are used flexibly, with the ability to increase bed capacity if required.

The unit is equipped to a very high standard, with addition of new BBraun smart pump technology, new fully integrated GE monitoring, and new BBraun CRRT machines, all within the last 2 years, to provide comprehensive care of the critically ill patient.

The department is recognized for intermediate and advanced training in Intensive Care Medicine.

Consultant cover is provided by 10 WTE's with an interest in Intensive Care Medicine. There are 20 daytime weekday sessions delivered by Consultants in Intensive Care Medicine. Daytime delivery of sessions is in blocks of two to five days.

The junior resident rota is staffed by a combination of Core and Specialty Anaesthetics trainees, ACCS trainees, Respiratory Specialty trainees and Foundation Programme doctors.
