An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Scientist to join a leading organisation in the composite materials market.

As a Senior Scientist, you will work as part of the research and technology team carrying out research experiments into new composite, adhesiveand carbon fibre materials.

In addition to this, you will have the opportunity to lead small development projects under the guidance of the senior chemists and management team.


To be successful you should hold a PhD in Chemistry or a closely related discipline, possess a keen interest in research, and have a sound knowledge of composite materials and the aerospace sector.


Senior Scientist Responsibilities:


  • Develop prototype technologies and mature them to suitable technology readiness levels for transfer to formal product development activities, continuing to monitor and provide support throughout that process.
  • Define and initiate projects to formalise the research and development of areas of particular interest, which may involve composite design, formulation, manufacture, processing, and use.
  • Work with Advanced Supply Chain to manage the introduction of new materials, equipment and services into the composite supply chain ensuring appropriate management of risks.
  • Liaise with colleagues in R&T teams, in the UK and abroad, to identify areas for strategic research activities and shape projects in this regard.
  • Contribute to the acquisition of new technical capabilities to maintain our client's competitiveness in the composites arena.

Senior Scientist Requirements:


  • Must have strong working knowledge and ideally track record of thermoset formulation or development of composite functionality.
  • Demonstrable knowledge or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of the requirements of industrial and aerospace composites produced through diverse manufacturing routes.
  • Capability to make decisions (informed by expert knowledge) to manage all aspects of risk associated with selecting components, formulations, and processes.
