Description

Full Time, Permanent
We are the Sustainable City and Climate Change Team.

Our aim is to enable and support the city of Bristol to become a healthy, sustainable, carbon neutral, climate resilient and ecologically rich city.

One of our roles is to monitor, assess and report on the state of Bristol's air quality to DEFRA. In order to do this, we operate a comprehensive network of air quality monitoring sites.

It is comprised of continuously recording analysers that measure nitrogen dioxide and particulates in the air and approximately 200 passive devices.

You will join two other officers who work on air quality so will have training, ongoing support and a strong working relationship with them.

We are looking for an Environmental Technical Support Officer - Air Quality to plan, organise, undertake and maintain the air quality monitoring network for Bristol City Council.

This will involve regular planned site visits to carry out calibrations to the equipment to ensure they are working optimally and to maximise data capture.

It will also involve visiting diffusion tube sites across the city to change them over and send them for analysis at a laboratory.

Tasks include,
- planning and organising site visits
- calibrating the air quality equipment at sites spread across Bristol and the greater Bristol area
- changing diffusion tubes that are mounted on lamp-posts around Bristol
- troubleshooting technical problems including the telemetry that connects the network
- managing relationships with customers, clients, suppliers and laboratories
- updating documentation on procedures and risk assessments
- replacing and installing new equipment
- call-outs within office hours

This work requires a high level of organisation, time management, dedication and attention to detail.

As the postholder will have control of their own work schedule and Bristol City Council needs to maximise the amount of good quality data generated self-motivation, initiative and commitment are important in the role.

An electric car, all equipment, protective clothing will be provided.

We would like to hear from you if you have some knowledge and experience of this work or who have transferable skills and can meet all the essential criteria.
