About the role


As Head of Proposition (Innovation and Strategy) you will be responsible for leading the exploration of new and improved propositions, often due to emerging customer needs, evolving strategy and/or regulatory changes.

We are looking for someone who is future focused, deeply understands customers and advisers, and has the technical and leadership expertise to develop and drive ideas into a business case and on to a live proposition, working with key stakeholders through the process.

Key responsibilities

Research and develop new propositions / ideas to help Royal London better meet customer and adviser needs; and to achieve its strategy to be an insight-led modern mutual, growing sustainably by deepening customer relationships
Use customer and adviser insight effectively to truly understand their needs and then the effectiveness of potential solutions to meet those needs
Collaborate and consult with internal stakeholders to optimise ideas and maximise the potential for successful delivery
Horizon-scan through industry events, regulatory engagement, technology partners, and other means to understand trends and to inform ideas and business cases
Understand the impact of changes in the wider market - adviser and customer needs, legislative, competitive, social, and technological - and use this knowledge to inform concept development and analysis
Understand and communicate the commercial viability of new concepts and the factors that drive the commercial impacts
Understand and communicate the risks involved with any new concept, the scale of potential impact, and the options available to mitigate the risks as far as possible
Effectively and confidently communicate the proposition concepts, how it meets customer and commercial needs
Use strong judgement to focus time on the most important opportunities and to make recommendations on which concepts to progress

Criteria

Strong customer focus and skill to gather insight required to understand customer and adviser needs
Strong expertise of relevant products, processes and markets, maintaining up to date knowledge and including understanding of competitors' propositions and strategies
Strong commercial ability and judgement
Experience in innovation and proposition development, for example using Design Thinking, Agile, or equivalent techniques
Ability to influence at a senior level, based on solid understanding of products, strategy and business direction, and excellent communication skills
A strong collaborative and consultative approach to develop and drive ideas
A natural ability to think strategically and creatively
