Set to start as soon as possible, Career Teachers are currently recruiting for enthusiastic and creative teaching assistants to join a specialist SEN school in Leeds.

This is a full time role, supporting students with varied special educational needs suchas Autism and ADHD.


The school supports learners with additional needs to reach their potential, inspiring and enabling them to achieve through different creative methods of learning and using the excellent resources they have on site.

You will be joining an extremely motivatedand welcoming team, who are dedicated to going that extra mile to ensure that each child has equal opportunities to an enriched education.

As a special needs teaching assistant (TA) your main responsibilities will be:

  • Providing support in the classroom to individuals/groups of pupils as directed by the class teacher/line manage (egIEPs, care plans etc)
  • Following and implementing the school's behaviour and any related policies and procedures.
  • Providing support for learning in the classroom as directed by the class teacher/line manager and help to maintain the order and cleanliness of the classroom environment.
  • Assisting in the supervision of children during the working day, on/off site including for example school visits, swimming, accompany children home or to hospital before and after school.
  • Assisting in classroom preparation
  • Under the direction of the Line Manager/Headteacher develop and maintain supportive relationships with parents, carers and others of the pupil's community. Contribute to the care, health and welfare of pupils in accordance with the relevant school policiesand support the outcomes of the Every Child Matters agenda.
  • Keeping records and providing feedback to teaching and other staff on pupils' behaviour and progress.
  • Maintaining and respecting confidentiality
  • Patient and understanding of each child's different learning needs and approaches, able to tailor the learning to ensure accessibility.
  • Able to manage challenging behaviours and diffuse situations.
  • Knowledgeable of special educational needs such as autism and confident in your ability to support learners effectively, providing the care that they need.
  • Consistent and committed, able to work full time.
