Assistant Company Secretary - BCS Governance team

In this newly created role, as an Barclays Assistant Company Secretary you will provide first class guidance and support to the Group Company Secretary and key stakeholders on Corporate Governance matters.
This will involve supporting with matters relating to the management of meetings of the Barclays PLC and Barclays Bank PLC Boards, as well as the key Board Committees, including the Risk Committee and the Sustainability Committee, and wider governance tasks within the BCS (Barclays Corporate Secretariat) Governance team.

What will you be doing?
- Supporting the effective and efficient administration of Barclays PLC/ Barclays Bank PLC Board meetings, through Forward planning of meetings and Agenda setting
- Reviewing and providing feedback on meeting papers, drafting governancerelated paper and including the Board quarterly corporate governance update
- Preparing draft minutes of meetings, assisting with the annual Board effectiveness review and maintaining an actions log to follow up on agreed action points
- Responding to queries from the businesses and functions relating to Board matters
- Supporting on matters relating to key Board Committees, including the Risk Committee and the Sustainability Committee
- Ensuring compliance with key Board governance documents, including the Corporate Governance Operating Manual, Matters Reserved to the Board and internal discretion limits
- Involvement with the production of the Barclays PLC and Barclays Bank PLC Annual Reports
- Preparing, reviewing and maintaining Board and Committee documentation such as terms of reference, charter of expectations, corporate governance documents
What we're looking for:
- Associate of the Corporate Governance Institute (CGI), UK qualified Corporate lawyer or equivalent including experience engaging with stakeholders at all levels
- Company secretarial experience gained within a UK listed company of substantial size and complexity preferred
- Well organised, with ability to prioritise own workload and workload of junior colleagues and operate under pressure in a fastmoving environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills alongside highlevel of attention to detail and accuracy
Skills that will help you in the role:
- Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements, particularly the UK Companies Act 1985 and 2006 (and related legislation)
- Knowledge of corporate governance principles and practices, particularly the UK Corporate Governance
- Excellent ability to scope, plan and deliver complex multidisciplinary projects
- Ability to build superior relationships with key stakeholders at all levels and work collaboratively as necessary
