Who We Seek


The purpose of this role is to establish and oversee an enhanced data governance programme for the Maples Group, with significant focus on the controls associated with the creation, receipt, maintenance, use and disposition of records.


About the Role


The Data Governance Lead reports to the Chief Risk Officer and may have additional dotted line reporting into the business.

The primary focus of the role is to deliver iterative maturity for our data governance and records management framework, enhancing best practice and ensuring compliance.

However, the role sits within the risk, information security and audit team and, as a result, will be a significant participant in shaping and delivering the team's broader strategic agenda.

Additionally, the role will incorporate significant interaction with a wide range of colleagues across all parts of Maples Group and collaborating on a number of initiatives to support the business's growth.


Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Revision and enhancement of Maples Group's data governance and records management policy framework
  • Reassessing the prioritisation of the Group's data governance enhancement programme
  • Creation of an execution plan to deliver requisite enhancements across the organisation: the execution itself will be undertaken primarily within the impacted functions across the Group
  • Creation and management of a crossfunctional global team to take the execution plan forward. This may encompass direct hires, in addition to engagement with a broader virtual team of colleagues and data champions across PMO, business, tech, ops, risk, compliance, InfoSec and other functional areas
  • Establishment of a consistent governance and reporting framework for data governance, to addressing both steadystate and uplift. This may include creation of data governance committee(s) and standardised data points applicable at Group, business line, entity and location level.
  • Validate ongoing alignment with industry best practice including ISO15489

EXPERIENCE

What You Bring

  • A data governance expert with extensive, demonstrable experience addressing records management and broader data governance agendas, ideally with a strong Legal, Risk Management or Compliance background
  • Detailed understanding of data governance and records management best practice including ISO15489, along with significant experience across Information Security, data privacy and data protection practices
  • A strong commercial mindset with the ability to transpose complex data issues between 1st, 2nd and 3rd lines of defence with the context that most relates to each function
  • Direct experience working in fiduciary, fund administration and legal practices, or demonstrable ability to quickly upskill in these areas
  • Project management and negotiation skills. The ability to work with and across diverse agendas whilst maintaining a consistent, structured path towards data governance maturity uplift
  • Flexibility. The ability and interest to positively enhance what we do and how we do it, whilst contending with a facepaced, regulatory and business driven environment. The ability to do what is best and what is right for the organisation and demonstrate the flexibility in scope and approach needed to do so
  • An industry recognised certification in data governance or data management is considered a strong asset
  • Extensive experience establishing a data governance framework and processes in midsize organizations
  • Uptodate knowledge of data privacy laws and regulations, such as GDPR, CCPA, GLBA, PIPEDA, etc
  • Knowledge of data loss prevention, SOC, or cybersecurity operations with specific understanding of the tactics, techniques and procedures is desirable
