Our Detail Design Team:
Detail Design specialises in the art of 3D CAD integration, and production of Engineering outputs, primarily in the form of drawings.
They are also deployed in other parts of engineering as technical support to engineers or as part of a systems engineering team that has focus on the integration of engineering toolsets such as CAD/PDM/ERM tools.
Detail Design is one of the largest engineering disciplines at Naval Ships and covers a wide range of delivery focused engineering tasks.
Applications will be considered for all Sub-disciplines:
- Structures, Electrical & Cable Management, Mechanical (HVAC & Piping Design), Parts Management and Layouts/Outfit.
As a Senior Detail Designer you will have proven technical capability and demonstrate exemplar behaviours as a role model within the team.
You will have a high degree of technical autonomy, within established procedures and practices performing a variety of the most complex tasks for example; validation and verification of others outputs and designs; and also support of external and internal audits/assurance.
***What you'll be doing:
- Deliver design solutions in line with the design intent, ensuring consideration of through life stakeholders (e.g. operations, commissioning, support, RN)
- Work within mandated design constraints such as design rules and acceptance requirements and manage nonadherence through the correct process
- Coach others on technical skills, guide and monitor trainees in their work required for vocational qualifications as delegated through Line Manager
- May be required to perform a key technical role within the Design Organisation when required such as DOQA & Change Impact Assessor
- Engage regularly with key Detail Design stakeholders in engineering and wider supporting functions
- Assist the customer through the approval process as compartment or system owners for spatial design
- Where appropriate, assume Capability Champion role and share knowledge for discipline specific tasks
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Extensive experience in an Engineering or Defence related industry
- Minimum HNC/HND in engineering, technology or science or equivalent experience
- Experience in more than one phase of LCM, with sufficient experience of total LCM to enable awareness of adjacent phases / through life engineering issues
- Indepth knowledge of all aspects within discipline
Desirable:
- EngTech status or working towards IEng status (UK)
