The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-starting individual to provide key services to the village of Waddington. To carry out a range of tasks to keep the parish neat and tidy and to improve the environment within the council's boundaries. This is an interesting and varied role supporting a pro-active and community focused Parish Council in Waddington, Lancashire.

Role Responsibilities


The role requires a person with the skills to undertake the task, with prior experience and their own tools and equipment to fulfil the tasks required.

He or she must have practical skills, good communication skills and the ability to interact positively the community.


Tasks & Responsibilities & Skills:


  • To undertake a range of maintenance tasks including clearing of leaves and unblocking drains
  • Ensure pavements, public footpaths are kept open and clean for users sweeping as necessary
- litter -dog fouling from pavements, on parish lands and public areas.

  • Maintain and keep in good repair street furniture, memorials, fences, stiles and gates owned by the council.
  • Grass cutting, weed spraying / management, cutting back vegetation as necessary.
  • Cut, prune and maintain hedges and trees in the parish.
  • Report to the clerk any householders or landowners where private hedges/trees need to be cut back.
  • Minor building/groundwork/painting.
  • Removal of fly tipping, fly posting, graffiti, and rubbish and to notify the council/clerk.
  • Assisting with Flood defence and sandbagging as required.
  • Removing snow and gritting as and when directed.
  • Ensure the parish is cleaned (and necessary arrangements made) prior to community events.
  • Assist in erecting and taking down Christmas trees and assist with the tree lights storage.
  • Ensuring blocked off footpaths, obstructions and any serious issues are reported.
  • To undertake any other tasks as requested by the parish clerk.
