The volunteer role is essential for the smooth, safe and impartial running of the contact centre.

ECCC values the contribution that volunteers play and recognises that at times, this can be difficult work.

ECCC will support you within this role, by providing:
an induction programme, shadowing / mentoring opportunities and NACCC approved training opportunities.

You will be asked to volunteer as part of a rota, where you can commit your time on a fortnightly / monthly / 6 weekly basis.

You will be supported (usually - dependent upon numbers of families using the facility) by 2 other volunteers and a coordinator.

A volunteer at a child contact centre is primarily responsible for facilitating contact between a child or children and a non-resident parent.

You will also be asked to:

• help prepare the centre in advance of people arriving;

- be observant of toys that are broken / dirty and take necessary action
- welcome visitors;
- register centre visitors;
- act as a host who: explains the use of the facilities; arranges toys; arranges refreshments
- where appropriate: talking to, listening to & relaxing visitors; encouraging & supporting play between parent and child/ren; talking to, playing with & relaxing children; keeping a watchful eye throughout the contact sessions
- discuss with coordinators any safeguarding issues as they arise
- refer to coordinator families whom are asking questions about contact
- tidying up once the centre sessions are finished
- participate in volunteer briefing and de-briefing sessions - time / circumstances permitting. Participate in ECCC training events / volunteer meetings.
