The Team


To support your work in Borders and Trade, you will be joining the Civil Service policy profession, which is central to the work of government, helping to solve problems and identifying and implementing new insights.


Job description


As a Policy Advisor, you will be supporting policy development and working to meet Ministerial steers, with industrial bodies and on international obligations.

This role provides a great opportunity to get involved in policy making in a fast paced and evolving area during a busy and exciting time.


Working collaboratively, you will have opportunities to engage with ministers, brief senior leaders across HMRC and Government, develop policy approaches to complex issues, analysis, and more.

You'll be addressing key issues in the forefront of UK citizens' interactions with customs. This includes optimising the collection of customs duty and data from global fast fashion retailers in the e-commerce sector.

Additionally, you'll play a crucial role in shaping regulations for travellers and their obligations when bringing goods across borders for personal use.

  • Comfortable responding to deadlines.
  • Outstanding organisational skills and ability to work independently and flexibly.
  • Commitment to managing your own personal development and challenging yourself and others to deliver agreed goals and objectives at pace and to a high standard.

Security Clearance level:
Subject to location, CTC clearance may be required once they've joined.
