Bensons Panels is looking for a Control panel wirer apprentice to complete a Level 3 engineering fitter apprenticeship.

An engineering fitter apprenticeship at Bensons provides an excellent grounding in the working methods and skills needed to succeed in the control panel industry.


In year 1 the apprentice will successfully complete the centre-based training at the AMRC Training Centre before transitioning into Bensons.

The apprentice will spend time in each of the manufacturing teams at Bensons, learning the skills and processes needed to become a multi-skilled technician.

From day one the apprentice will have the opportunity to contribute towards continuous improvement activities within the business.


In years 2 & 3 you will work closely with a mentor and alongside experienced team members and existing apprentices to further develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed for the role.

Experience of working independently will be gained in the factory.

In addition, the opportunity to work on customer sites will be provided, as well as spending time in our test department to gain further knowledge and skills in how complex control panels operate.

Bensons encourages the development of its people, meaning that there will be opportunities for progression within the business following completion of the apprenticeship.

These opportunities could include undertaking work at customer sites, working on increasingly complex projects, taking on co-ordination and management roles, or progressing on to a design engineering position


Things to consider:


During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study.

You will return to your workplace one Friday per month.

After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study.

The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

You will need
both of the following:


  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above on the
    Higher Maths paper only


Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield's AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
