Overall Purpose of the Role

  • To provide support in the advice, guidance and coaching of managers with day to day generalist HR issues, enquiries, employee relations and performance management
  • To support managers in managing, communicating with and supporting employees in their departments in line with St Luke's policies and procedures
  • To support employees with any issues, concerns or queries they may have relating to their employment and provide guidance on organisational policy as necessary
  • Support the Head of People and Welfare and Lead HR Advisor on the development and delivery of the HR strategy by actively contributing to HR project work and delivery as required
  • Deliver HR management modules when required as part of an inhouse management development programme
  • Where assigned to support Medical teams:
  • Support the regular rotation of medical staff
  • Support the Medical Director in relation to his Responsible Officer duties
  • Support the Medical Director in relation to his Medical Director responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Head of People and Welfare, Executive Team, Heads of
Department, Managers and employees in all general HR and recruitment matters including but not necessarily limited to: -
Recruitment
- producing adverts, role profiles, employee specifications, advertising, short listing, interviewing and completing appointment and new starter recruitment checks.
Absence management - monitoring, reporting and guiding on return to work interviews and phased returns.

Performance management - support and guidance with 1-1 meetings, performance reviews and attending and supporting at formal meetings

  • Build effective working relationships with the Executive and Management teams whilst being approachable to all members of staff
  • Provide first line support to employees and line managers on of HR policies, procedures and legislative matters
  • Act as the first point of contact for all external and internal HR enquiries, maintaining confidentiality at all times
  • Coach managers through employee relations and performance issues
  • Work with the hiring managers to identify the recruitment need, the reasons, budgeting and executive sign off, and provide expertise on the hiring process from start to finish and at all levels of seniority.
  • Working with the hiring manager, produce a relevant job description, person specification and appropriate advertising text.
  • Liaise closely with the Marketing team(s) at all times, provide relevant sources of data and materials for social media advertising. Using innovation, creativity and current trends to attract a diverse applicant response.
  • Provide support in the interview process, providing interview questions, skilful advice and ensuring a fair and consistent process is always followed without bias.
  • Help to promote changes within St Luke's and the wider community ensuring the message that St Luke's vacancies are open and welcome all applicants
  • Help raise awareness of St Luke's in schools, colleges and the wider community
  • Effectively interact with people at all levels and from a range of backgrounds
  • Oversee preemployment checks such as producing contracts of employment as well as ensuring that suitable references, Occupational Health clearance and DBS checks have been received prior to employment
  • Advise and lead on absence, investigations, disciplinary, grievance and capability casework, with reference to the Head of People and Welfare
  • Work on nominated HR projects ensuring timely and effective delivery of such projects
  • Work closely with the HR team to review processes and procedures and make improvements where possible
  • Produce data, statistics and reports as necessary from the HR database
  • Build effective working relationships with managers to encourage a provision of proactive HR support
  • Forge links with local and national organisations as may be necessary
  • Liaise with the Finance team regarding payroll queries and enquiries and processing payroll information in a timely manner

General
