About the role


We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Communications Officer to be part of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity's (GOSH Charity) busy and ambitious Communications team.


This role forms a vital part of the team and is a great opportunity for a communications professional to hone their experience across the breadth of communications.

The role will focus on media relations and contributing to the busy press office at the Charity, as well as working closely with GOSH patients and their families to help tell their inspiring stories.

It will also work closely with both the wider Communications team and overall Marketing & Communications directorate to ensure integrated and effective campaigns.

About the team


Reporting into the External Communications Manager, the Communications Officer will be joining a high achieving, fast-paced Communications team, whose remit covers the External Communications, Family Stories, Internal Communications, Social Media and Celebrity & Influencer liaison.


About you


You will be passionate about telling powerful stories that move people to take an action and will feel inspired by the opportunity to play a key role in publicising a range of fundraising campaigns to national media.

A natural relationship builder, you'll be comfortable with interacting with a range of stakeholders, excel at pitching to journalists and supporting family stories and celebrity ambassadors.


Specifically, you will have:


  • Proven experience in delivering high profile and effective proactive PR campaigns, and of responding to reactive media enquiries
  • Experience of effectively working with senior internal and external stakeholders, high value supporters or donors
  • Indepth knowledge of PR strategy and tactics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and to work to tight deadlines
  • Experience of working with celebrities
  • Experience of interviewing people sensitively and carefully placing family stories in the media
