We provide expert legal advice to clients across the construction, engineering and energy sectors.

We advise on Contractors All Risks matters, first party claims, subrogated recoveries and claims against construction professionals such as engineers, architects and surveyors.

The team's case load includes claims involving the collapse of various structures undergoing construction, damage caused by fire and escape of water, high value basement conversions and fraudulent claims following theft of plant and machinery.

Main Responsibilities

As part of our growth and strategy, our Professional and Commercial Risk team is looking to recruit an additional 0-5 year qualified solicitor to join the team in Manchester.

Some construction experience would be useful but is not essential.

The individual will play an active role in the continued growth and success of the team in collaboration with our wider practice in the North, nationally and internationally.

The team acts for all the main insurance companies. We deal with the full spectrum of insurance work from policy cover, recovery and strategic advice to insurers.

As part of the team you will have:

  • The opportunity to interact on a regular basis with clients where you will share your knowledge of key issues and provide meaningful advice to clients
  • A mixed workload of construction and engineering claims
  • Responsibility for conducting both preaction and litigated matters as well as assisting more senior fee earners
  • Responsibility for running disclosure exercises and drafting witness statements
  • A good understanding of alternative dispute resolution, including mediation
  • The opportunity to liaise directly with experts and counsel, therefore you will require the ability to understand and direct experts and Counsel
  • Maintain an awareness of the firm's strategies and plans
  • Maintain and develop technical knowledge through attendance at training sessions, reading appropriate publications and exceeding Law Society CPD requirements
  • Exercise full compliance with DAC Beachcroft protocols on billing and credit control and demonstrate a high level of financial management when supporting others in managing files and in relation to own files, where appropriate.
  • Have very good relationship and client handling skills, commensurate with experience
  • Be able to deal confidently and professionally with clients on day to day issues
  • Have a good level of selfsufficiency, and manage a caseload including complex and high value disputes
  • Be change oriented with a positive, flexible approach towards the implementation of new initiatives
  • Be team oriented and collegiate with a willingness to share knowledge with and support other members of the team
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work hard as part of a highly ambitious and driven team to help it continue to develop and to achieve its objectives
