The post holder will pick, palletise, load and deliver frozen commodities (or any other items as reasonably requested by management) from the production unit to kitchens in schools, social services homes, and any other establishments as directed by the CPU Manager.

This is in accordance with food safety and quality standards.

Drive a range of delivery vehicles and fork lift trucks.

Compliance with Health & Safety Legislation and any Legal responsibilities connected to driving duties or relating to a duty of care with vehicle safety.

This includes compliance to all Council daily vehicle checks, service schedules, tachograph use, compliance and health requirements to be a designated Council driver.

Any damage or accident with a vehicle to be reported immediately to FIPC Manager. Responsible within school playgrounds etc.

to be safety aware and not put children at risk either whilst driving vehicles or moving any other equipment used in the delivery of goods.

Required to work from comprehensive instructions, making minor decisions with regard to route due to adverse road/weather conditions.

Must take immediate action in cases of rise in temperature of food in vehicles or vehicle defects, making FIPC Manager aware.

To carry out a range of portering duties as directed by the Production Manager or the FIPC Manager.

The main responsibilities of the post:

  • Responsible under the Food Hygiene Act to keep all foods at correct chilled and frozen temperatures during transportation and delivery to avoid any possible danger of temperature rise.
  • Responsible for the security, safety and cleanliness and safe operation of nominated vehicles.
  • Movement of equipment and food as per scheduled/planned/timed route or as directed by the FIPC Manager or Production Manager. Delivering and filling in of all required paperwork.
o Delivery of equipment to kitchens.

o Delivery of hot transported meals as directed.

o General work within production unit shut down periods

o On call for emergency food deliveries i.e. associated with peace time disaster plan; bad weather.

  • Front line fact contacts with customers and members of the public.
  • Driving a fork lift truck when required within the production unit.
  • Adheres to operational procedures and ensure high standards of Food Safety
and Safe Methods of Working are maintained at all times. Ensuring safety of self and

colleagues when handling equipment movements.

  • To support, uphold and contribute to the development of the Council's equal rights policies and practices in respect of both employment issues and the delivery of services to the community. Also adhere to the Council's Employee Code of Conduct and Social Media Policy. (It is the employee's responsibility to be aware of the aforementioned policies)
  • Assist in the day to day control and movement of stock within the production unit. Participate in weekly stocktakes as directed ensuring accuracy in counting and recording. Ensure that energy consuming equipment in the production unit is switched off when not required.
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined by the CPU Manager as the service develops.
  • Responsible to oneself and working colleagues for a high standard of hygiene and safety under the Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulation 1995, the Health and Safety at Work Act 197
  • To work efficiently and effectively as directed by the Production Manager to include the
correct receipt and movement of incoming goods, decanting to stores, correct storage

of food commodities, consumables and cleaning materials within the production unit.

  • To work to the cleaning schedule regarding equipment, production area, food storage
areas and the general building to ensure highest possible standards are maintained.

Cleaning of building and equipment including the use of scrubbing machines and high

pressure hoses. Removal of waste materials to the appropriate skip, compactor,

container etc.

  • The efficient and timely loading and unloading of frozen food stock/deliveries into vehicles
when required, including the use of fork lift truck (designated/qualified operator) and pump

trucks in the safe movement of commodities.

  • Cleaning Duties:
o General light equipment washing up and washroom itself.

o Cleaning of all heavy equipment, e.g. Large scale fryers, steamers, ovens, etc.

o Cleaning of all sections, walls, floors, windows, surfaces, doors, stairs etc.


o Cleaning of the men's toilets and cloakrooms to a high standard (compliance with food and premise Hygiene) - Health and Safety standards.

o Ground maintenance of depot and winter gritt
