Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Property Underwriter to join our National Property, UK team based in Manchester.

Territories of focus include Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and South.

Day-to-day responsibilities of this role include contribution towards the growth and build-out of our National Property, UK business across all relevant distribution channels, qualifying both renewal and new business accounts, utilizing underwriting acumen to select risks within the company's risk appetite and expanding and developing new business opportunities through production calls with brokers and customers.

We are seeking an individual who is energized, passionate and who is always striving towards excellence.

You should be comfortable working closely with the Claims team, underwriters from across the broader team, risk engineers and actuaries.

In addition, necessary character, relationship building and negotiating skills to help further build a profitable book of business are of the upmost importance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Support the development and buildout of National Property, UK that is consistent with the teams focus on profitable growth
Underwrite assigned renewal and new business accounts while ensuring appropriate analysis and documentation without sacrificing discipline, diligence, and quality of service
Underwrite complex and challenging risks while developing creative solutions for our brokers and customers
Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships
Maintain awareness of the competitive environment
Effectively communicate BHSI value proposition

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

3+ years of commercial Property Underwriting experience
Existing broker and customer relationships, or the experience and ability to develop strong broker and customer relationships
Strong underwriting acumen, including understanding deployment of nett capacity, catastrophe modelling and risk engineering loss estimates
Experience and understanding of policy forms
Positive collaboration and team building skills
Strong communication skills including negotiation and presentation experience
Willingness to travel
