About the role:


  • We're looking for an engaging and passionate Substation Trainer to join our Technical Training team at our Eakring Training Centre.

Reporting into the Safety and Substations Training Manager, you will design and deliver Technical Training courses to our Apprentices, Graduates and Operational teams using innovative and interactive blended learning solutions.

Using your excellent knowledge and experience of maintaining substation plant and equipment, you'll help design and develop technical and safety training that meets the relevant safety requirements and needs of the business.

As the learner's progress you will proactively manage their performance, operate within a defined training quality assurance framework and be an assessor for our Apprenticeship programme, all whilst working with our Design and Innovation team to drive improvements.

To succeed in this role, you'll have excellent communication and relationship building skills, have experience of maintaining substation plant equipment and be enthused by or have experience of coaching or mentoring others.

This is a great opportunity for craftsperson or engineer who wants to work for a progressive, and reputable organisation, and have a tangible influence on the development and growth of the next generation of National Grid Engineers.

Training will be delivered primarily at our Eakring Training Centre but travel to alternative training centres and operational sites throughout the UK will also be required.

What we're looking for:
  • Essential
  • Recognised Level 3 Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship


  • Appropriate Technical Qualification

  • ONC/ HNC or equivalent Electrical Engineering Qualification.
  • Solid experience, maintaining substation plant & equipment.
  • Experience of managing teams or work activities.
  • A good degree of IT skills and be conversant with Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication and time management / planning skills are a fundamental requirement for this role.

  • AP as defined in NSI 30.
  • Previous training experience, knowledge sharing or coaching of others
  • Knowledge of Prevent, Safeguarding, or working with young adults


  • Safety Qualification

  • NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma.
