Main Purpose


This is a fixed term contract projected to last one year from entrance on duty date, depending upon budgetary constraints.


USAFE-UK/Transportation & Customs acts as HQ USAFE/HNCC forward in UK, facilitating reach back and fulfills the logístical dominant user role with Her Majesty's Government and other agencies in support of US Forces missions; in addition to providing guidance to US Forces personnel.

We are looking to recruit a Traffic Management Specialist who will function as a Customs Clearance Specialist for goods for the exclusive use of the US Force in the UK and controlling the flow of non-US Force origin/destined goods moving in the Defense Transportation System and acting as part of the UK-wide Airlift Clearance Authority.

You will receive documentation and queries from Freight Forwarders and Customs Agents, and US Force Units relating to import/export clearance of goods.

Review all information to verify items, make enquiries as need arises, and prepare and issues clearance instructions for items determined to meet Visiting Force Relief criteria.

Ensure host nation procedures for customs import and export are met and all entries and challenges are maintained electronically to meet retention of records in accordance with DOD and HM Revenue and Customs' standards.


Knowledge and Experience Required:


  • Applicants must demonstrate the following:_
  • Must have a Degree in any relevant major study OR specialized experience in managing a transportation/traffic system, or operating Airlift Clearance Authority (ACA) activities for clearance of cargo offered for movement in the military airlift system (consisting of general, special handling cargo, personnel,freight and household goods)
  • Knowledge of a wide range of traffic management polices principles, practices, and techniques
  • Knowledge of customs clearance requirements for imports/exports via commercial air and sea modes, military airlift, road (with or without Form 302), and Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) surface. movements (including munitions vessels).
  • Able to operate independently
  • Knowledge of UK Customs Procedure Code for Visiting Forces Relief to ensure criteria is met is desirable.
  • Knowledge of hazmat, safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. 7. Ability to plan, organize and participate in the functions of traffic management and to mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and translate complex information, makes appropriate judgments, and evaluates options concerning movement all types of cargo.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing and thoroughly document all transactions and commitments

Other Important Information
Hours of work will be , Monday to Friday.
May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee.

May be required to travel away from normal duty station for TDY or training as directed by management, sometimes on short notice and including overnight stays, traveling by military or commercial aircraft or by any other designated means.

Position may be designated as mission essential.
Employee must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
