An exciting opportunity has arisen for an inspirational, driven and motivated Band 7 Trauma Team Leader, who has extensive experience within both elective and emergency surgery.


The role is highly operational; therefore the post holder will provide visible leadership to the theatre team and will be responsible to lead scrub disciplines within theatres.


We are looking for an exceptional individual who is proactive and motivated to deliver high-quality, safe and compassionate patient care, demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills and work well within a cohesive multidisciplinary team.


You will also demonstrate an aptitude to lead others in the development of knowledge, ideas and work practice to improve quality, cost effective care and maintain our high standards of theatre practice.


The Team leader within Theatre Services will be responsible for the Operational Management of the agreed aspect of the Operating Theatre Service, by the appropriate deployment, delegation, co-ordination and supervision of all grades of staff.

The role will support and lead staff to ensure high quality care is delivered to all patients.

The post holder will provide high quality, evidence based, patient centred care using specific knowledge and skills throughout the department, acting as a resource to other staff.

The role includes working closely and effectively with the multi-disciplinary team in the management of the Department. This includes the support and leadership provided to nursing and support staff within the Theatre Services.


The role also includes the continuing responsibility for the effective delivery of the philosophy, policies, and standards of care and morale of the department in line with the Trust values.

Clinical / Leadership


Responsible for the management and leadership of theatre department on a 24-hour basis including organisation of the workload, allocation of appropriately skilled staff and ensuring planned surgery is delivered safely and effectively.

Responsible for own time management to meet clinical and management responsibilities.

Present a dynamic, innovative, enthusiastic role model providing leadership and guidance on both operational and specific speciality issues.


Be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised patient care, using expert knowledge and skills with particular reference to infection control and prevention and risk management.


Provide clinical leadership within the speciality ensuring that patients receive a high standard of care appropriate for their surgical and anaesthetic needs according to identified and agreed protocols.


Plan and maintain staff rotas for the clinical team to ensure the appropriate/available skill mix is allocated to ensure effective utilisation of sessions, working within E roster guidelines.


Develop a practical and problem solving approach to day-to-day difficulties in practice, working with the General Manager, Lead Practitioners and team leader colleagues.

Support the Lead Practitioners in monitoring recruitment and retention and the use of extra hours and agency.

Actively support the Trust's Clinical Governance agenda.


Facilitate regular team meetings to ensure all staff are well informed in a timely manner and that staff at all levels are encouraged to participate and feedback in a constructive manner.

Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and legibly in accordance with good record keeping guidelines.

Report/record/investigate any risk management issues in line with Trust/Theatre policy. Support Matrons to investigate and respond to incidents/complaints where appropriate.


Demonstrate leadership and clinical expertise within the speciality team and develop clinical speciality expertise within all members of the team.

Ensure relevant knowledge for all aspects of the post is kept up to date.
