We are seeking an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual to join the Microbiology laboratory at Pathlinks, Scunthorpe General Hospital.MLA duties are varied and include receiving, labelling and entering a range of samples e.g. nail, tissue, blood, urine etconto the laboratory computer systems.
As an MLA you will assist Biomedical Scientists to provide a high-quality service while adhering to the Trust values of kindness, courage and respect.
The applicant should have a good standard of general education as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.Applicants should be able to demonstrate organisational skills, attention to detail, a basic knowledge of computers and an ability to learn new tasks.
Experience is desirable but not necessary as full training will be provided.
The laboratory delivers a range of investigations, is UKAS accredited to ISO 15189:2012 and is an IBMS approved training laboratory.
The post holder will work as a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) performing a range of microbiological techniques to assist the Biomedical Scientists in the clinical diagnosis of microbiological disease.
Following training, the post holder will be expected to participate in the shift rota which will include working weekends, bank holidays and evening shifts.

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Perform routine investigations in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Use of lab equipment e.g. analysers, centrifuges, autoclaves.
Decontamination duties.
Disposal of waste.
Participate in the shift rota.
Answer telephone requests.
Comply with safety procedures at all times and be able to recognize potential hazards to themselves and others and rectify or report these in a timely manner.
