Overview:

The School Improvement Team at Buckinghamshire Council currently have an opportunity for a Governance Support Officer.


The School Improvement Team work closely with Buckinghamshire schools to ensure all stakeholders have the knowledge, tools and ambition to develop sustainable, safe, inclusive and effective practice where all children and young people in Buckinghamshire can flourish and achieve their best possible outcomes.


We build strong county-wide collaboration through engaging school leaders and governors to develop a self-sustaining, system led model of school improvement and develop strong links with external partners to help support Buckinghamshire schools.

We work with school leaders to ensure disadvantage and vulnerable children and young people make accelerated progress to ensure equity of outcomes with their peers.

About the role:

The successful post holder will be responsible for;

  • Supporting and developing effective governance across all Buckinghamshire schools, regardless of status.
  • Developing and managing a profitable Governor Support Traded Services for Buckinghamshire.
  • Supporting the wider School Improvement and Achievement and Learning Teams with project management and delivery to support improved school governance.
  • The role is a 0.5FTE post with some evening work required.

About you:


  • Understanding and experience of governance and possess an awareness of wider sector and external influences
- within the scope of the service area

  • The ability to interpret complex policy and procedural issues and provide advice, information, interpretation, recommendations and support on the full range of technical / professional issues
  • Authority and credibility to build relationships and engage successfully with colleagues, partners and customers at all levels and the ability to work closely and effectively with stakeholders to clarify changing business requirements
  • Education to NVQ 4 or degree level or equivalent
  • Experience within governance
