HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a product group in Hitachi Energy, which develops, manufactures and sells DC transmission systems on a global market.

HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances and for power transmission via submarine cables. It is also used to connect power systems.


Hitachi Energy HVDC is seeking a Technical Training & Competency Coordinator, to be based in the UK, to support the highly dynamic and rapidly growing HVDC business.

You will be part of a global team focusing on training and competency development, building the teams to deliver the energy transition for our future generations.


You have a keen interest and previous experience working in the fields of training and competency; ideally in a large, complex international environment where employees frequently move across borders.

This is a hybrid role, with the main link office being located in central Birmingham.

Travel will be required to our UK delivery sites (some of which are in remote locations) as well as occasional overseas travel to collaborate with the wider team.


Your responsibilities

  • Working very closely with the wider team to create and deliver localized training solutions for both internal and external stakeholders, based on the Global plans and materials.
  • Design, delivery and implementation of 'in person' and 'virtual' training interventions.
  • Developing technical/competency related training courses using a range of tools.
  • Working together with our Talent & Learning function to optimize the use of the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Delivery and local owner of induction and onboarding process of all new joiners into the HVDC business.
  • Supporting additional technical training and competency processes as required by the business/ function.
  • Understanding business needs and direction of travel, proactively making suggestions to improve our delivery where required.
  • Administration and coordination of technical training plans and programmes, both internally and externally.

Our requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to build, develop and maintain collaborative working relationships at all levels.
  • Previous experience in designing and implementing technical training through varied delivery methods.
  • Previous experience working closely with LMS (Learning Management Systems).
  • Ideally experience working in a global environment, with day to day reporting outside of the country.
  • Capability to prioritize work tasks, communicate clearly and anchor with stakeholders
  • You are flexible, persistent and have the ability to work independently as well as collaborate well with others in a highpaced environment
  • Experience in Digital and E-Training creation and delivery.
  • Fluent in English language, both written and verbal.
