Head of Strategy and Policy.


We are looking for a dedicated individual to fill the role of Head of Strategy and Policy at Slough Borough Council (SBC).

As the Head of Strategy and Policy, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our community and driving positive change:


  • Lead a highperforming Strategy and Policy team that plays a pivotal role in developing councilwide strategies and policies, as well as shaping local policies and plans within directorates.
  • Advise senior stakeholders, including Directors and Elected Members, and help increase public engagement in local democracy and policy making through innovative practices.
  • Provide inspirational and professional leadership to staff, fostering a strong culture of standards, performance, and accountability.
  • Work collaboratively with a wider leadership team across the council to drive forward crosscouncil initiatives and ensure changes are embedded in a sustainable way throughout the organisation.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead the development of key councilwide strategies and policies, ensuring alignment with the council's strategic objectives.
  • Play a leading role in public consultations and matters of public engagement, making exceptional efforts to reach typically hardtoreach groups.
  • Develop and own a councilwide register of policies and strategies.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on matters of strategy and policy to senior stakeholders, raising visibility and awareness of policy issues.

What you'll have:

  • Substantial public policy experience.
  • Experience of working in a political environment to develop policy and strategy.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear insight for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to develop clear strategies at an organisationlevel to achieve outcomes over a mediumto longterm timeframe.
  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills, both internally and externally.
