About Caritas Westminster:

Caritas Westminster is the social outreach charity of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Westminster.

Our work supports 208 schools, 212 parishes and hundreds of community outreach initiatives across the diocese, to tackle poverty and social exclusion.


We have five priority areas:
food security, safe shelter, dignified work, financial resilience, and social inclusion and belonging. The Food Programme Support Officer role belongs under our food security area of focus.


About the role:


To deliver the Caritas Emergency Supermarket Voucher Scheme, and support on longer term resilience-focussed initiatives, to help end poverty for good.


To support the Caritas Project Lead for Food to realise the vision of the Caritas food programme, and within it the Caritas Food Collective of 200+ food projects in the Diocese of Westminster: a vibrant, connected, resourced and known community of sustainable food projects, striving towards the most valuable impact for communities.


Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
Project delivery and support (70%)

  • Support the parishes and schools on the direct relief vouchers scheme, to access and benefit from longterm sustainable support via the Road to Resilience programme, to help end poverty in communities for good. This may include occasional visits to food projects e.g. food banks in the diocese.
  • Assist Food Lead and Communications Officer to create a dynamic website "hub" page for food projects in the diocese, where they can access resources, advice, support and any new foodfocussed initiatives.
Communications, campaigns and marketing (30%)

  • Create graphics and content for any Caritas food campaigns, Advent Giving Calendar, or other materials, and social media account (Twitter).
  • Keep up to date with developments in the food relief and food justice space in the UK, and share with Food Lead.
  • Make suggestions for stories from interactions with food projects and work with Food Lead to write up content as blogs or articles for Caritas website, or potential stories for media.

Hours of work_:
_**35 hours per week (this role is primarily office-based with some flexibility around hybrid-working)
