This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to join a Community Project in Lambeth.

The purpose of the project is to develop culturally responsive early intervention, in order to improve outcomes for Primary School aged children with autism/social communication needs and mild-moderate anxiety, with a particular focus on children from global majority backgrounds.


The project is a collaboration between the Lambeth Mental Health Support Team (MHST) and the Lambeth Child and Young People's Wellbeing Team (CWP Team), in partnership with community groups within Lambeth.

Lambeth MHST and CWP services are part of Lambeth Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.


The role of Assistant Psychologist is to support the research and development of the project, as part of the core project team.

The role will involve service evaluation, research and administrative activities including:

literature reviews, data collection, data analysis, and report writing; joining and co-facilitating key research activities such as focus groups, interviews and completion of questionnaires; developing resources; attending key meetings and communicating aspects of the project to service users, partners and other stakeholders.

Working with our community partners is a key element of the role.

We particularly welcome applicants with lived experience relevant to the project. Our recruitment processes are informed by the Expected Standards for the recruitment and Employment of Assistant Psychologist as set out in the document that produced by the Assistant Psychologists Task and Finish Group, commissioned by the British Psychological Society (BPS) Practice Board

The London Borough of Lambeth has a population of 317,800 (GLA Lambeth's population is highly diverse, a characteristic visible in the breadth of ethnic and cultural traditions seen throughout the borough.

It is estimated that 63% of the population describe their ethnicity as other than White British; 23% describe their ethnicity as Black (11% Black African, 7% Black Caribbean and 5% Other Black), 22% White Other and 6% as Asian.

The Annual population survey, estimates that a third of Lambeth's residents are non-UK born.

Of these non-UK born, 40% are of wider European origin, 20% are of African origin; and 20% of Central or South American origin.

Nearly 150 languages are spoken as the first language in the homes of Lambeth school children. Portuguese, Spanish and Somali, are the most commonly spoken other languages in Lambeth. Lambeth has a child and youth population aged 0-20 of almost 70,000. Over 50% of this number are 0 to 9 years old.

The postholder will set up, update and maintain research databases and analyse qualitative and quantitative data.

The postholder will conduct literature reviews relevant to the project.


The postholder will support with service evaluation and research activities with service users and members of community groups, such as attending focus groups and completing surveys and questionnaires, under appropriate supervision.


The postholder may use Microsoft Forms and Excel and other programs to ensure the timely and accurate distribution of questionnaire and other materials related to the project.


The postholder will be expected to maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing, according to professional and Trust guidelines, including electronic data entry, and to maintain data bases and enter data, and perform analyses and produce reports.

The postholder will assist in the design and implementation and writing up of the research project.

The postholder will assist in resource development.


The postholder will be required to respond appropriately and professionally to emotionally distressing situations and to support others involved in such situations.

The postholder will follow policies and procedures in their own area of work.

The postholder will be responsible for promoting positive community relationships


The postholder will ensure that all information generated by their work is recorded as required by Trust policies and local procedures.

The role may involve travel within the borough.
