Job Title:
Trust Governance Professional

Contract: 12-month fixed term contract (with the potential to develop into a permanent role.)

Hours: 0.6 FTE (21 hours per week)


Grade:
NJC spine points 34-38


Pay Range:
£42,795 - £46,857 (pro-rata) depending on experience and qualifications

Location:
Hybrid working (Part home/Part office working. Office is located in Pinner. Some travel to DoWAT schools will be required.)

Job Overview:

As Trust Governance Professional you will be working on our governance project spearheading the implementation of the project plan.

You will work directly with the Director of Operations delivering the highest standards of governance ensuring a fit for purpose and consistent approach across DoWAT.

This role works closely with our local governing bodies (LGBs) providing robust and efficient governance support and advice and coordinating key contributions to governance activities.

  • Has experience/working knowledge of coordinating a governance function/governance regulation.
  • Has experience of delivering set project tasks to agreed timescales.

Key Responsibilities:


  • To coordinate and implement relevant aspects of the DoWAT governance project, as requested by the Director of Operations.
  • To systemise clerking across the trust ensuring consistent support for LGBs and chairs with a consistent 'house style' of approach and governor challenge in meetings.
  • To develop the DoWAT governance 'Code of Conduct'.
  • To provide LGB's with expert advice in carrying out their statutory obligations for school governance.
  • To develop, establish and embed high quality working practices and service delivery standards for governance administration and support.
  • To establish and coordinate LGB clerking across DoWAT ensuring the consistent performance of their duties, including leading on information sharing and continuous improvement discussions.
  • To cover the clerking of LGB meetings in the event of absences and vacancies, as required.
  • To support the recruitment of school governors.
  • To develop, maintain and schedule a comprehensive induction and training package for Governors and Clerks within the Trust.
  • To maintain regular communications and act as a point of support for DoWAT LGB Chairs.
  • To organise an annual DoWAT Governors' event and related mechanisms to celebrate governance.
  • To produce regular DoWAT LGB communications.
  • To quality assure the timely production of LGB minutes/reports across the Trust's schools.
  • To quality assure the uploading of relevant information to the Governors' portal, including agenda and related papers, minutes, portfolio reports and other useful information.
  • To monitor key risks on LGBs and bring to the attention of the Director of Operations, as relevant.
  • In conjunction with the relevant LGB clerk, to monitor & develop trust reporting on Governor attendance at formal meetings.

Please Note:


  • DoWAT is a Catholic Multi-Academy Trust. While there is no requirement for the post holder to be Catholic, all employees must support the Catholic aims and ethos of the Trust.
  • The post holder will need to attend DoWAT school Local Governing Body meetings and therefore an element of travel will be required within the role.
  • The post holder may be expected to carry out duties other than those given in the job description where the level of responsibility is similar, and where they have appropriate qualifications, or receive appropriate training to carry out these duties.
