The Client
The Oxfordshire Stroke Rehabilitation Unit is a 20-bed inpatient unit based on the Abingdon Community Hospital site with access to a therapy gym, accessible kitchen and sensory garden.
We provide short term rehabilitation for people post stroke and performhighly in the national stroke audit (SSNAP), taking a dynamic and innovative approach to evidence-based practice and service development.
As part of the role you will work alongside a specialist multidisciplinary team and provide clinical leadership for theOccupational Therapy team.
Clinical work is the core component of this post, making this a great opportunity for someone who wants to take the next step in their leadership journeywhilst retaining a patient facing role.
The Role
The Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist is a highly skilled clinician who will provide clinical leadership and supervision for the Occupational Therapy staff base on the 20 bedded sub-acute stroke rehabilitation unit, in conjunction with the ClinicalLead Physiotherapist.
The practitioner will promote evidenced based practice with a high level of clinical expertise in stroke and work with the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist to develop the stroke rehabilitation service.
They will lead on training linked todeveloping staff in this specialist area. They will manage a complex caseload of clients, providing high quality care which is appropriate, cost effective and efficient.The post holder will work flexibly to meet the demands of the service and in conjunctionwith the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist, participate in the development and evaluation of policies, protocols and guidelines which are relevant to the Unit.
The Stroke Rehabilitation Unit aims to empower clients to manage their conditions effectively and worksto maximise their potential to reach their goals of self-management, access to their environment and return to previous function and interests.

Qualifications
Essential
- Professional Qualification (Degree or equivalent).
- Professional Registration
- Extensive post registration training in neurorehabilitation
Desirable
- Active member of specialist interest group e.g SSNP
- MSc or post graduate diploma
Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in the specialty of neuro rehabilitation as a Band 6 or equivalent
- Previous NHS experience
- Advanced working knowledge of stroke rehabilitation
- Previous experience undertaking appraisal and supervision
- Active participation in teaching and inservice training programs.
Desirable
- Experience of research/audit
Skills
Essential
- Skills in complex cognitive assessment and rehabilitation
- Comprehensive knowledge of abnormal tone/spasticity management
- Experience of seating and wheelchair management
- Ability to prioritise and manage own and others time effectively
- Ability to work in a stressful working environment with emotional or aggressive patients/or carers and manage stressful, upsetting or emotional situations in an empathetic manner supporting other members of the team, clients and their families
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
