Functional Skills Tutor English & Maths - Walton on Thames - Part Time - Flexitime - Immediate Start

Bond Education are working with a fantastic company who have an exciting opportunity for a talented, highly motivated and enthusiastic Functional Skills Tutor to join their Apprenticeships Department.

The role involves preparing apprentices to achieve Maths/ English Functional Skills qualifications, Level 1 and 2. Responsibilities will include planning, teaching and assessing students.


We are looking for someone who has the ability and drive to inspire small, diverse groups of young people to achieve their full potential.

You will need to have a relevant qualification and previous teaching experience within a classroom setting.

The hours for this role are flexible where you can manage your own working days / hours. This can be on an employed or self-employed basis.


To be successful for this position you must have a Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent and previous experience in teaching functional skills.

Main Responsibilitiesfor this role:


  • To complete course introduction to students, providing course outlines and timetables, ensuring clear course expectations are given.
  • To fully prepare any learning resources, lesson plans and schemes of work to meet course objectives and create a professional and positive learning environment.
  • To deliver course content using creative and flexible strategies to meet different learning styles and ensure learners are fully engaged at all times.
  • To record student progress though individual course topics and assignments. To arrange regular meetings with students to undertake continuous action planning to develop knowledge, improve skills and meet course and qualification deadlines.
  • To ensure all student progression is tracked, evidenced and recorded and associated paperwork is effectively maintained and up to date at all times.
  • To liaise with the Awarding Body to schedule, carry out and invigilate exams and provide completion records.
  • To issue course evaluations and collect certification claims ensuring course completions are fully recorded and submitted.
  • To maintain quality by following IQA and EQA standards. To report accurately on the progress of both individuals and groups to the IQA and attend meetings as required to maintain and improve quality initiatives.
