The integrated Finance and Business Intelligence (FBI) directorate is recruiting to the Patient Level Insight Lead who working together as part of a multi-skilled team, will be responsible for supporting a clear line of sight to the Patient.


The role will be an integral part of the wider Finance and Business Intelligence Directorate, providing support and insightful information to support the delivery of patient level insight and associated costing for the organisation and wider system.


The postholder will lead the production, development and promotion of patient level insight and data and work in collaboration with the wider FBI team, internal and external stakeholders to drive great care close to home.

The role will include the undertaking and continuous improvement of the annual costing exercise and patient level information and insight.

The role will also lead on completing and drawing insight from benchmarking and best practice from a variety of sources including population health information.


Working together as part of a multi-skilled team, the Patient Level Insight Lead will be responsible for providing support and insightful information to support the delivery of patient level insight and associated costing for the organisation and wider system.

This post will have a clear line of sight to patients and work collaboratively across the Finance and Business Intelligence directorate and beyond, supporting the tactical delivery of key priorities, influencing strategic direction, and ensuring the operational requirements to do so are met in partnership with the finance and data infrastructure teams.


The postholder will be innovative in creating insight great care close to home and work collaboratively to deliver improvements to patient outcomes.

Responsible for the submission of NHS benchmarking information collaboratively with teams colleagues and managers.


Responsible for ensuring accurate costing information is provided within agreed deadlines and that any variances from plan are identified, managed and communicated appropriately.

Support development of a plan for the continuous improvement of costing and patient level insight data

Responsible for providing expert advice and judgement on costing and patient level insight.


Review, analyse and identify from the internal costing information and nationally available data, areas that would benefit from a targeted review with a focus on improvements in patient care and / or efficiency.

To keep up to date with all developments and changes relating to NHS costing.

Provide information and advice on the use and development of costing information to date with all developments and changes relating to NHS costing.


To promote and develop the use of patient level insight, and to develop and maintain effective and appropriate communication arrangements that links service development to ensure that professional and service staff can fully contribute to and influence the planning and delivery of services.

Lead in the development and maintenance of costing software and other databases to produce costing information.


Use complex financial, statistical and analytical techniques to evaluate multiple sources of information linking both financial and non-financial information to identify and understand trends and cause and effect.


To work in collaboration with the Lead Financial Account and team and across FBI to oversee Trust income is understood and reflected appropriately.

Line management of the Portfolio Managers and Data Scientist.

Regularly undertakes R&D activity and use research methodology for specific one-off surveys and audits, and collation of research results to improve their area/service
