A position exists, for a Research Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on understanding and reducing environmental impacts in food manufacturing.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The key responsibilities and duties are to: Observe and analyse food manufacturing streams. The design, implementation, and testing of gamification technique for CO2e reduction.

You will be supporting the deployment of a range of digital technologies on the shop floor to track CO2e footprint in real-time.

You will work to develop and deploy a Carbon Hero's Program.


You will need:

  • To quantify the impact of novel, digitalised systems on the businesses productivity, calculate ROIS, Co2e.
  • Perform the dissemination of study findings and engaging with wider industry. Build and maintain effective relationships with project partners and industry.
  • Develop external networks, for example, to identify sources of funding, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities.
  • Alongside this you will need to conduct background research on academic and industry practice.
The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are:

  • Expertise and knowledge in identifying and solving Environmental problems.
  • Evidence of previous work with industry, supporting sustainability transformation through innovative solutions.
  • Experience of the design, implementation, and testing of gamification technique for CO2e reduction
  • Experience of Dissemination of findings and engaging with wider industry.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 September 2024 in the first instance.
