Description

The post holder will be required to support the Medical Secretarial Team in the delivery of a comprehensive administrative service.

This will involve inpatient and outpatient waiting list management for a speciality, in accordance with the Patient Access Policy, communicating appointments and admission related information to patients and carers and typing correspondence within performance targets as appropriate.

The post holder will be expected to cover the Senior Medical Secretary during leave.


Responsibility for handling telephone and other communications with sensitivity and confidentiality using personal judgement to assess each situation and to deal with accordingly.

To deliver a high standard of communication to build and maintain good working relationships.

To deliver a high standard of typing.

Audio typewriting skills with knowledge of medical terminology

Knowledge of Excel

Knowledge of Microsoft Office package.

Knowledge of the hospital EPR system

Knowledge of patient administration and other related systems

Answering phone calls, dealing with queries from patients and medical team

Covering for annual leave/sickness

Able to use own initiative.

Ability to work as part of a team.

Good communication skills.

Ability to work in a demanding, pressurised environment.
