SEND Education Consultant - Cognition and Learning


We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic Education Consultants who place the child at the centre of their work and who can support schools to meet the cognition and learning needs of their pupils.


This role would suit someone who may be working part-time, may be recently retired or who has flexibility in terms of the hours they can offer; there may be one off pieces of work or an ongoing commitment to a school over a term or year.


In order to be considered for this role, you must have qualified teacher status plus a postgraduate Level 7 qualification in psychometric testing.

What is the role?


You will work with schools and families to identify barriers to learning and to recommend effective strategies and resources to help overcome those difficulties.

You will carry out a range of standardised assessments as well as informal assessment activities to create detailed learning profiles and will provide comprehensive reports which fulfil the SEND Code of Practice 'Assess, Plan, Do, Review
- cycle. You will provide written and oral contributions to annual reviews, Early Help meetings and progress reviews. You may create personalised interventions and deliver training to teaching staff.


As an Education Consultant you will be expected to:

  • Work across a range of schools in the region and travel between sites.
  • Carry out direct work with the young person to establish their views and wishes.
  • Undertake informal assessments which may include observations of the young person.
  • Undertake standardised assessments related to the young person's cognitive processing, underlying ability, literacy and Maths skills.
  • Provide settings with agreed written reports electronically within 10 working days of completion of the work.
  • Provide advice on creating SEND friendly learning environments.
  • Attend termly and annual reviews as requested by the school. Attend meetings with schools and families to plan provision and where appropriate provide guidance around transition from primary school to secondary school.
  • Provide training for teachers and teaching assistants around the delivery of specific interventions or to raise awareness and understanding of SEND and its impact on learning.
  • Qualified teacher status _this role is not suitable for early career teachers (ECT)._
  • An additional postgraduate Level 7 qualification in psychometric testing.
  • Clear commitment to the values of SEND Support_ed_, demonstrating through their practice a caring, passionate, inclusive, innovative and flexible 'can do' approach.
  • Proven ability to work independently, within a team and with a range of colleagues across educational settings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written.
  • An unwavering commitment to safeguarding and completion of a successful enhanced DBS check.
  • Good administrative skills
