Description

In January 2018, the Minister for Health announced the government's commitment to the development of a Scottish Trauma Centre Network over a 5 year phased funding plan.

This network is made up of 4 Regional Major Trauma Centres based in North,
East, West and South/East Scotland.

The West of Scotland (WoS) network went live in August 2021 and is providing all aspects of trauma care, from the point of injury to rehabilitation, in the region.

At the heart of the regional WoS network, is the Major Trauma Centre which is sited at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) in Glasgow.

The last phase of the opening of the network is the rehabilitation component, which included a Hyperacute unit.

This is a Level 1 rehabilitation unit for those patients with Category A needs as per British Society of Rehabilitation Medicine (BSRM) standards.

This new development will provide specialist rehabilitation and care for patients with complex rehabilitation needs.

Initially, some of the hyperacute beds will be cohorted in the Major Trauma ward and some beds will be located in various acute wards, where an in-reach service will be provided.

This model may change in the future. The service will provide a patient-centred, goal setting approach to patient care.

In preparation for the development of the Hyperacute service we are currently looking to further enhance and develop by recruiting to the specialist Physiotherapy team.

This post is essential to the delivery of the major trauma service and involves supporting the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy staff in delivering a high quality service to patients.

The applicant will be expected to carry their own, delegated patient caseload and to treat patients as directed by a qualified Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist.

Previous experience of working in a rehabilitation environment is essential and previous NHS experience is desirable. Training will be provided to allow you to undertake clinical and non-clinical duties.

Applicants should have the ability to work independently and as part of a team and be able to demonstrate good communication skills, both verbal and written.

There is an expectation that this post will cover a 5 over 7 working pattern.
