Main duties and Responsibilities Education, Service Improvement and Quality: To assist with the planning, development, delivery and assessment of education programmes for learners and Trust employees To set up and maintain equipment for teaching sessions as required To assist with the planning, organisation and scheduling of appropriate assessments for learners on placement and clinical staff within the Trust To possess high levels of developed skills required for educating health care professionals To influence patient and clinical safety through delivery of effective education and assessment programmes To continually seek to improve the quality of education through the use of evidence-based practice, liaising with professional colleagues, reviewing literature and evaluating feedback To act as a role model exploiting every opportunity to enhance the knowledge of others.

To develop knowledge across a range of learners related to PE&D and use this knowledge to relate theory to practice at degree level Communication, Personal and People Development To maintain a professional attitude at all times, developing the role of the PE&D Facilitator in the best interests of the patient and profession in accordance with their relevant professional body e.g.

Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)/ Health and Care Professions Council Code of Conduct To possess developed communication skills to enable excellent communication.

To cooperate and work well with others appreciating the roles of other staff and agencies involved in the care of the patients To communicate effectively with healthcare professionals and learner who fail assessments/courses which could have implications for their immediate and future career prospects.


Identify further educational needs, offer opportunities to meet those needs and inform the Practice Educator so that the relevant manager/consultant/educational supervisor can be informed To prepare for exposure to distressing and emotional circumstances, when dealing with staff during and following education sessions or clinical experiences that may require support following a related clinical incident To produce written communications and reports for the Practice Educators, which are clear, fluent, and concise and easily understood.

To work with the Education Centre Coordinator to ensure capacity is maximised.

To take responsibility for personal performance and recognising own development needs To actively seek to improve teaching skills and knowledge To assist with the education related component of workforce recruitment and retention.

To contribute to the production of annual reports for PE&D To collate data using computerised systems to maintain PE&D databases.


Leadership and Management To assist with the development and implementation of a strategy and associated teaching and assessment resources for education within the Trust To assist with PE&D service development which impacts across the Trust and in association with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to ensure compliance with nationally recognised guidelines To lead on specific delegated management issues and projects within PE&D and to continually seek new ways to expand the service To ensure the timely ordering, repair, procurement and maintenance of equipment and supplies for the PE&D To develop an awareness of the financial and business aspects of PE&D and work with the PE&D Lead to ensure there is cost effective development within the finances available To actively participate as a member of the relevant education committees to ensure decisions and actions are disseminated and implemented within the education strategy To provide specialist education advice across a range of staff and learners and act as a resource, providing expertise and support to all healthcare professionals, including Support Workers, clinical apprentices, pre-registration learners, newly qualified staff and those undergoing post graduate courses of study including Internationally Educated Nurses, Midwives and AHPs Research and Audit To regularly audit own practice, ensure knowledge and skills are kept up to date.

To maintain the PE&D databases To ensure that attendance and assessment records for staff and learners are recorded correctly to enable annual reports to be provided To analyse education needs, skill competency attainment and maintenance To develop specialist knowledge in research and audit To assist the Practice Educators in coordinating and implementing research in relation to PE&D Effort Prepare to be frequently required to exert moderate physical for several short periods during a working day, walking at a pace and long distance throughout the hospital site, working in an awkward position or confined space, or lifting, pushing, pulling heavy equipment and manikins when preparing for training sessions and courses.

Prepare to be frequently required to exert moderate mental effort. Concentration skills are required when dealing with frequent interruptions
