An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Mortuary Team at Nottingham University NHS Trust.

The Mortuary Services receives in excess of 6,000 deceased Patients every year and helping provide support for the Coroners, Police and Funeral Directors for the Trust, Nottingham and the surrounding areas.

The Mortuary Service works alongside the Bereavement Service in coordinating a caring and empathetic service.


As a Senior Administrative Technical Officer, you will be a member of the Mortuary Team and assist in the delivery of a quality driven, cost effective, patient focused service consistent with the Nottingham University Hospital Trust's objectives.

The post holder will be performing clerical, administrative and reception duties within the Mortuary environment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working in an environment where deceased Patients are received or released.

The position is primarily office based, however, the post holder may be required to escort relatives or service users of deceased Patients in to the Viewing Suites.

The post holder will have experience in administration skills and an understanding of the Hospitals computer systems.

Previous roles that have required looking after and caring for deceased Patients would be of benefit, but not essential.

The post holder will receive and book appointments for Funeral Directors on collection or delivery of a decedent.

You are also responsible for the day to day organisation of the Coronial work within the office environment.

You will liaise with the Coroners Office, Police and service users to help run and provide the service.


The post holder will be based at QMC Campus but may be required to work at either NCH or QMC.

The Mortuary Service is a small friendly service comprising of 12 members of staff.

With some team members with excess of 20 to 25 years experience dealing in Mortuaries and Funeral work, this experience has proved pivotal in supporting the service and aiming to be where we want to be, now and in the future.

Main responsibilities are:
Support the Mortuary Service and ensure that quality is maintained.

To perform office administration and reception duties

Act as main point of contact for Pathologists, Funeral Directors and Coroners Officers

Responsible for the day to day planning of the departments administrative functions including CT Scans and Invasive Post-mortems, by liaising with our service users and Pathologists

Assist with the minutes of local Mortuary Department Meetings as required

Be responsible for the training of staff and new starters in general office processes and procedures

The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
