About the Role

Role title:
_Materials, Coatings and Corrosion Technical Authority - Offshore Wind_**
Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:

  • Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant, Belfast or Dublin.

Key to our growth ambition, SSE Renewables have an exciting opportunity within our Renewables Engineering Centre Offshore Engineering Team for a Materials and Corrosion Technical Authority.


As a Materials, Coatings and Corrosion Technical Authority - Offshore Wind, you'll be accountable for providing technical guidance across all our offshore wind projects in development, construction and operational phase, predominately on the Support Structure and Wind Turbine areas.


The role will include the approval and on-going management of relevant engineering standards, evaluation and implementation of innovations and ensuring assets comply with engineering legislation and standards.


What do I need?

  • We are looking for a Chartered Engineer and member of the Engineering Council who has specialist technical knowledge and significant experience within materials and metallurgy in offshore environment.
  • Ideally you will have experience on conventional and advanced NDT techniques, including Engineering Criticality Assessments, knowledge and experience of life assessment and extension techniques and philosophy, experienced at writing technical reports and communicating across all levels within a company and externally. Knowledge on composites will be also valued.
  • Knowledge of different corrosion protection techniques (active and passive), applicable to offshore environment, is key for this role. As part of the role you will need to be able to interrogate contractor reports, generate technical guidance documents in this area and understand numerical data inputs.
  • Demonstrable experience of offshore structure fabrication, including welding processes and relevant codes and standards.
  • A large part of this role will require outstanding interpersonal, influencing and communication skills, which you'll be capable of adapting to all management levels and situations, and specifically where there is a need to manage conflict in high pressure environments.
  • Excellent organisation skills will be essential, along with the ability to deliver quality work to the agreed timescales. An understanding of the commercial context and implications of engineering activities and decisions will also be required.
