Job summary:
This is an exciting opportunity to become the SEO Automation and Analysis Lead for the Automation and Analysis team which sits within the Security Function Centre Team in GSG and delivers automation and analysis of our assurance services and products to benefit organisations across government.
We run the Departmental Security Health Check (DSHC), an annual self-assessed survey to support Accounting Officers in oversight of their organisations' security and provide an authoritative pan-government baseline for Cabinet Office ministers, Government Security Board and the Government Security Steering Group.
We analyse the data from the assessment, and use our insights in our reports to Civil Service leaders that support decision-making at the heart of government.
We run the cross government Assurance User Group to ensure that the central assurance framework is customer-focused and complementary to departmental activities.
As the SEO Automation and Analysis Lead you will work within a fast paced environment that delivers robust insights and innovative solutions for government security assurance.
Your work will focus on implementing the team's analytics and data science activities and delivering high-value projects that improve audience insights.
You will develop solutions in line with organisational needs that practically demonstrate the benefits of using advanced analytics and data science techniques.
Working in GSGThe Government Security Function (GSF) oversees the delivery of protective security across Government.
Our Mission is to enable Government to protect citizens and provide vital public services by understanding and managing security risks.
We set the strategy and standards for Government Security, monitor departmental security performance, manage pan-government security incidents, support the delivery of key security capabilities and lead the Government Security Profession.
The Government Security Group (GSG) is the centre of the Security Function, based within the Cabinet Office.GSG is transforming the Government's approach to protective security to ensure it is fit to meet the challenges of the digital age.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team, with a breadth of stakeholders including in other Government departments, the National Technical Authorities and the Agencies, and to contribute to delivering improved security across Government.
Job description:
The post holder will be responsible for:
- Automation
- Develop and deploy robust automation, analytics and data science solutions, such as producing automated reports, that meet stakeholder, and organisational needs
- Delivery
- Improve the use of data science and analytics within the Government Security Assurance team, and the Departmental Security Health Check
- Analysis present data, analysis and visualisations in clear ways using narrative storytelling to communicate complex messages, to a wide range of nontechnical senior stakeholders
- Line management
- Provide line management to a small team of analysts, identifying areas for development and opportunities to use their talents to deliver outputs that improve the impact of the DHSC
- Deputising for the Assistant Head of Automation and Analysis
Person specification:
Essential skills and experience
- Using Python to deliver data science and analytical work
- Experience producing reports / briefings / analytical recommendations
- Experience of managing and manipulating datasets in Excel
- Knowledge and experience of: data preparation, exploration and visualisation; data interrogation and analysis; and presentation of results using appropriate visualisations
- A problemsolving approach with curiosity and proactivity to engage and understand both the strategic business goals and our customer's needs
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, managing own time and priorities as required
- Using data visualisation software such as Tableau, Power BI or similar
- Using GitHub to work in a collaborative development environment
- Experience in natural language processing
