Anticoagulation Clinic HCA

Band 3

The Cancer Services Division is currently looking to recruit an Anticoagulation Clinic HCA working within the Haematology department. This is an exciting opportunity for a hard-working and enthusiastic HCA to join our specialised Antigoagulation clinic.

The post holder will work closely with Clinical Nurse Specialists in clinic. They will be responsible for providing essential clinical assistance to our patients in a very busy fast-paced clinic. They will assist in obtaining point of care blood samples from patients following full training and assessment.

The individual will be also be expected to provide a high quality, patient focused and responsive administrative function when necessary.

This post is full time Monday to Friday.

The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) works as part of the department team under the supervision of registered nurses, and:

  • Participates in the delivery of patient care
  • Contributes towards department organisation
  • Supports registered nurses in the provision of a safe and caring environment
  • Assists with the induction, supervision and training of new HCA


The Band 3 HCA demonstrates a level of skill and understanding which enables them to undertake specific tasks delegated by the nurse in charge and in accordance with relevant procedures, guidelines and policies.

S/he will undertake both routine and specially identified tasks for which they have been trained and assessed as competent.
The Band 3 HCA will adhere to Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England (2013), and Compassion in Practice

Key working relationships with all members of the multi-professional team, including nursing and medical staff, allied health professionals and support workers

The focus should be on results rather than activities. There should be between 3 and 6 key result areas or perhaps more if the job is very senior.

Main


Responsibilities:

Communication

  • Communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their family/visitors/carers
  • Respond appropriately to queries, take phone messages and pass on written and verbal information to patients
  • Provide relevant information to patients, family/visitors/carers and colleagues
  • Complete documentation accurately and contribute to reports of patients' activity and progress
  • Accept constructive feedback from colleagues
  • Give constructive feedback on patient care and activities to relevant healthcare professionals
  • Participate in discussions about patient care and departmental development, including handover and team meetings
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Maintain professional boundaries and working relationships with patients and colleagues
Reception and admin tasks

  • Enquire if patient details are correct and make amendments on relevant systems where necessary.
  • Ensure documentation for use in clinics is prepared and available, with adequate supplies provided for each clinic room.
  • Prior to clinic start times, conduct environmental checks to ensure rooms are tidy.
  • Check pts in and out of their appointment.
  • Booking, rescheduling and cancelling appointments.
  • When necessary, process on the day clinic cancellations and communicate with patients accordingly, and in a sensitive manner.
  • Retrospectively going through clinic for DNA's and outcomes.
  • Scanning, monitoring inbox and patient advice requests and answering phoneline.
