Information About The Role
Keeping the United Kingdom safe is a complex task. The threats we face are ever evolving. Our Customer Service Centre have an extensive secure network to support National Police IT.

With the growing threat to National Security, we need to expand this network - and that means adding to our dedicated team.


We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator with strong SQL skills to be part of the Applications and Data team, supporting business-critical systems that are vital to our work in an ITIL-aligned environment.

It's an IT role like no other, which comes with excellent training and the chance to build your skills.

As a SQL DBA you will provide full lifecycle production assistance to development, infrastructure, testing and finally production.

The SQL DBA will be managing and maintaining the SQL Server database environments across all our various platforms and be considered an SME regarding all things Databases.

The role will be part of a talented team consisting of DBAs and Application Analysts.


This role requires a flexible working approach and may on occasion require travel to sites around the UK, as well as working on-call.

There may also be occasions where work is required outside of core business hours for maintenance work on critical systems.


Responsibilities

  • Monitor & maintaining and tuning databases to optimise availability of server as well as troubleshooting performance.
  • Creating suitable Database alerts as well as Proactively monitor and responding to alerts
  • Troubleshot performance and connection issues.
  • Build environments based on standards and best practices that would align to operational and business requirements.
  • Monitor database maintenance scripts for backups, index rebuild/defragment, and database statistics.
  • Producing, maintaining, and ensuring backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.
