Main Function of Position_

  • To work with the Council team, and under the direction of the Events and Business Manager, to help deliver thriving Sandbach Town Council Markets

GRADE
SCP 7-12 (LC1)

(£22,369 - £24,496 FTE - part time 25 hours pw worked flexibly Thursday - Saturdays)

Overall Responsibilities_

To ensure that Council markets run efficiently, are well presented and represent value for money

To work with the Council Team and Market Traders to help to continuously improve market attendance and performance such that it meets agreed operational and financial targets;
The person appointed to the post should be capable of coping with a variety of sometimes challenging situations that may arise in a busy commercial and public service environment in a professional manner


Sandbach Town Council Markets currently operate on Thursday, Friday and Saturday so flexible working is an essential requirement of this role.

Specific Responsibilities:_

  • To assist in the facilitation, delivery and improved performance of all Sandbach Markets;
  • To build an effective relationship with market traders regarding policy and operational issues, whilst upholding the responsibilities of the Council;
  • To help seek new traders where appropriate and assist with their induction;
  • To conduct risk assessments for all markets, market events and related promotions;
  • To assist with market related events under the direction of the Events and Business Manager;
  • To monitor, collect and record market rents in the most technologically efficient manner and in accordance with the Council's audit requirements;
  • To collect and analyse performance data and prepare monthly management summaries as directed by the Council;
  • To work with the Council team (including market casual staff) to assist with the set up of the outdoor market in the most efficient way;
  • To ensure that both indoor and outdoor markets are well presented and that traders operate within the Council's market regulations, in consultation with the Events and Business Manager;
  • To network with other market operators and NABMA to help develop best practice;
  • To ensure market equipment is efficiently used and securely stored to avoid misuse and loss;
  • To help organise general cleaning and facility services throughout all areas of the Council operated Markets;
  • To undertake market related entrances and barrier locking and security as required.
  • To organise timely public realm street cleaning at all outdoor market sites in order to maintain high standards of appearance, and report necessary repair work to the Assets and Public Realm Manager;
  • To develop and deliver the maintenance schedule for the markets and market store, in collaboration with the Assets and Public Realm Manager;
  • To oversee market use of waste disposal and recycling services in line with Council policy;
  • To adhere to the council's H&S policies and procedures and maintain excellent working practices, including completing statutory H&S checklists;
  • To undertake any other duties as and when required by the Council that are reasonably within the capabilities of the person and which fall within the general scope and purpose of this job description and assist in the achievement of the Council's corporate strategy.
  • To undertake training in market operations as appropriate.

Part-time hours: 25 per week
