We are recruiting for an Associate, to join our Legal 500 Tax and Estate Planning team in Bristol.

TLT's Tax and Estate Planning team are graded in Band 2 in Chambers high net worth guide and Band 1 in the Legal 500 for the South West, hence, this is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded team.

The team act for a combination of wealthy individuals, major UK banks and trust companies, and provide a full-service Private Client practice, including the following elements:

  • Bespoke wills and probate
  • Trust creation and trust management including charitable trusts for ultrahigh net worth clients (often on behalf of leading private banks)
  • Estate and succession planning advice for highnet worth families and business businessowners
  • Personal Tax advice
  • English and international Trust advice (including being principal adviser to two leading UK banks)
  • Court of Protection advice and deputyship (including contentious work)
  • Trust, tax and probate disputes
  • UK and international tax advice to individuals referred to us by Private Banks and trust companies in London and offshore jurisdictions
  • Advice on international succession

Your Role:

If you are successful, you will carry out a wide range of private client work with particular emphasis on:

  • Delivering a bespoke will writing service to individual high-net worth clients
  • Advising on and preparing Lasting Powers of Attorney
  • Developing your knowledge of English trust law, including drafting trusts and related documents and preparing associated advice
  • Developing your knowledge of a broad range of sophisticated estate, tax and trust law advisory work undertaken by the team for an enviable client base (working alongside senior lawyers in the team and collaborating with colleagues in other teams such as banking, corporate and family)
You will also have the opportunity to be involved in wider private client work, such as:

  • International tax and succession planning advice to individuals and trustees
  • Exploiting opportunities with clients and referrers in London and internationally

Your Skills and Experience:

To be considered for this role, you must have solid experience of drafting Wills and providing related advice. You will have a good understanding of English trust law, ideally including experience of drafting trusts and related documents.

If you have experience in (or an interest in) international tax law, then that would be beneficial, but is not essential.


You will be:

  • A forward thinker, with excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills
  • Selfmotivated with the ability to manage workloads and deadlines
  • Commercially aware with enthusiasm for business development, and an appetite for keeping uptodate with the latest developments in your practice area and sector focus
  • Able to understand your client's business needs, and act in the best interest of the firm and the client
  • An ambitious and enthusiastic team player, able to support senior fee earners and contribute to our collaborative culture.

Your Team:


TLTs Tax and Estate Planning team are graded in Tier 1 in Legal 500 for the South-West and Band 2 in Chambers High Net Worth for Bristol and Surrounds.

The Private Business Group comprises the Family and Tax and Estate Planning teams.

The group has a strong international client base and they offer a full-service Private Client practice for a combination of wealthy individuals, major UK banks and trust companies.
