About us and the role


This is an important new post, offering an opportunity to contribute to the governance of the Trust and to support the Trust Governance Officer in the management and administration of the Trust Governance function.


You will provide high-quality administrative support to the Trust Governance function, including the Chief Executive, Trustees and Members of School Stakeholder Committees (SSCs)*.

- _Note : SSCs are the Avanti equivalent of Local Governing Bodies and are an important tier of Trust Governance. Their responsibilities are covered by the Trust Scheme of Delegation and differ from those of LGBs, _

What will you do?

  • Be a key point of contact for Members, Trustees and SSC Members, senior colleagues, School Principals and Business Managers;
  • Support preparation, coordination and collation of draft agenda and reports, liaising with report authors as required and posting on Governor Hub in advance of meetings;
  • Support delivery of the Governance Improvement Plan following completion of the independent external review of Trust Governance to take place imminently;
  • Assist with administration, processing and analysis of Board, Board Committee and SSC Effectiveness Reviews;
  • Clerk meetings, preparing agenda, reports and minutes and liaison with Committee Chairs, Trustees, SSC Members and senior colleagues;
  • Support a Group of SSCs. This includes drafting the termly SSC Model agenda and related SSC Effectiveness Report, drafting and reviewing termly SSC Minutes, drawing the attention of the TGO to issues raised by SSCs for consideration by Trustees or that require action or a response from the Central Team;

What are we looking for?

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Proven ability to prepare highquality reports and meeting minutes
  • Proven experience and knowledge of a Clerk to Governors (or similar) clerking role in the education sector including advising on procedures at meetings
